Arts Digivolve, Explained
When you can Arts Digivolve — and how the simultaneous triggers resolve
"Arts Digivolve" was formally introduced in the April 2026 Comprehensive Rules update. After using a dual card (a card with both a Digimon side and an Option side) as an Option, instead of trashing it you stack it on one of your Digimon and digivolve — an entirely new digivolution rule. Here's the procedure, the can/can't boundaries, and the simultaneous-trigger resolution, following the official spec (digimoncard.com/rule/revised/).
What Arts Digivolve is (official spec digest)
Arts Digivolve is a special rule exclusive to dual cards (cards carrying both Digimon-side and Option-side information).
- Available ONLY when the dual card was **used as an Option card**
- After resolving the Option side's [Main] effect — at the point the card would normally be trashed — you may instead stack it on one of your Digimon in an area and digivolve
- One card thus provides both its Option effect and a digivolution target
- Digivolution requirements must be met as usual (Arts Digivolve does NOT ignore them)
- You draw for the digivolution as usual
- It's optional processing: you choose whether to Arts Digivolve
- Available ONLY when the dual card was **used as an Option card**
- After resolving the Option side's [Main] effect — at the point the card would normally be trashed — you may instead stack it on one of your Digimon in an area and digivolve
- One card thus provides both its Option effect and a digivolution target
- Digivolution requirements must be met as usual (Arts Digivolve does NOT ignore them)
- You draw for the digivolution as usual
- It's optional processing: you choose whether to Arts Digivolve
The official 4-step procedure
As spelled out in the official rule/revised page:
1. Reveal the dual card and declare its use as an Option card (the Option side's color requirements must be met)
2. Activate and resolve the Option side's [Main] effect
3. After the [Main] effect resolves, choose whether to Arts Digivolve. If you do, stack it on one of your cards in an area and digivolve (drawing for the digivolution at this point)
4. Rule check → every effect that triggered up to this point now triggers **simultaneously**, and the turn player activates them in any order
Step 4 is the point: an [On Deletion] effect from something that died during the [Main] effect and the freshly digivolved Digimon's [When Digivolving] effect trigger together, as one batch.

Step 4 is the point: an [On Deletion] effect from something that died during the [Main] effect and the freshly digivolved Digimon's [When Digivolving] effect trigger together, as one batch.
The boundary: "using" vs. "activating by an effect"
The conditions are strict.
- YES: the dual card was "used as an Option card"
- NO: the Option side's [Main] effect was activated directly by another effect — no Arts Digivolve
Example: if an effect like "activate the [Main] effect of 1 Option card in your trash" processes a dual card, that's not "using" it, so Arts Digivolve is unavailable. Remember: Arts Digivolve is only ever offered after USING a dual card.
- YES: the dual card was "used as an Option card"
- NO: the Option side's [Main] effect was activated directly by another effect — no Arts Digivolve
Example: if an effect like "activate the [Main] effect of 1 Option card in your trash" processes a dual card, that's not "using" it, so Arts Digivolve is unavailable. Remember: Arts Digivolve is only ever offered after USING a dual card.
Digivolution requirements are NOT ignored (important)
The name suggests some special shortcut past the requirements. **It's the opposite** — just like a normal digivolution, **the digivolution requirements must be satisfied** (official rule/revised).
- Level, trait, and color requirements all apply as usual
- However, if a separate effect grants "ignoring the digivolution requirements," the combination can slip past them (see the column "Understanding 'Digivolve Ignoring Digivolution Requirements'")
- If the Digimon you Arts Digivolve into has a [When Digivolving] effect, it activates normally
Don't think "Arts Digivolve = digivolve into anything." Think "use the Option, then recycle the card as a digivolution target."
- Level, trait, and color requirements all apply as usual

What if something was deleted during the [Main] effect?
This is where games get confusing.
- The [Main] effect applies DP-X000 or similar → a Digimon at 0 DP isn't deleted instantly; it's deleted when the rule check comes around
- That rule check happens AFTER official step 3 (the Arts Digivolve decision) — everything is processed together in step 4
- Result: the "[When Digivolving] effect of the Arts-Digivolved Digimon" and the "[On Deletion] effect of whatever died" trigger simultaneously, and the turn player picks the order
Principle: whatever triggers mid-resolution gets batched into one simultaneous trigger afterward. Assume sequential resolution and you'll miss your best ordering.
- The [Main] effect applies DP-X000 or similar → a Digimon at 0 DP isn't deleted instantly; it's deleted when the rule check comes around

Key point The four basics of Arts Digivolve: 1) only after USING a dual card (not when its [Main] was activated by an effect), 2) digivolution requirements apply as usual, 3) you draw for the digivolution as usual, 4) anything deleted during the [Main] effect triggers its [On Deletion] together with the [When Digivolving] — one simultaneous batch, order chosen by the turn player.
